Dr. Schoch's Shock Waves
Dr. Robert Schoch on the Age of the Sphinx

In 1992 Dr. Robert Schoch and John Anthony West first reported their extraordinary findings about the need for redating the Sphinx as an exclusive report on 21st Century Radio®. Since then Schoch's "shock waves" have been resounding through the various fields of study that his conclusions have affected.

Robert Schoch is a geologist an Associate Professor of Science and Mathematics at Boston University and the author of many scientific papers and books including Stratigraphy: Principles and Methods.

The implications of Dr. Schoch's geological investigation of the Sphinx were far-reaching. He and his colleagues concluded we need to reassign the date for the construction of the Sphinx which is officially taught to be around the same time as the construction of the Great Pyramid, around 2500 B.C. An earlier date for the Sphinx implies it was constructed in pre-dynastic Egypt times and therefore indicates the existence of a previously unknown, sophisticated, civilized culture much earlier than we have taught in our history textbooks. Just how far back does humanity go? Obviously this question has had resounding impacts in the fields of anthropology, religion, creationism, and those who support the idea of ancient ET contact.

SCHOCH'S CONCLUSIONS CAN BE EXPLAINED VERY SIMPLY

The body of the Sphinx, as well as the walls of the Sphinx enclosure, exhibit a round, undulating weathering pattern which contrasts with the sharp, jagged weathering patterns seen elsewhere on the Giza plateau

There are two distinct types of weathering found on the Giza Plateau.

The Sahara Desert, where the Giza Plateau is located, is a relatively young desert geologically speaking, and since the classic 4th king dynastic times it has had a very dry, windy environment. Yet, the Sphinx shows classic rain erosion, precipitation induced erosion, which very conservatively means it has to have been in existence there in the Sahara since before the dry period, going back to the period of 3000 to 7000 B.C., in order to get those erosional features. The conclusion is simple: the Sphinx has to be pre-dynastic in origin.

Schoch has continued to search for corroborating evidence for a pre-dynastic advanced civilization elsewhere on the Giza Plateau. For example, he points to the repairs made to the Sphinx in 2300 B.C. which covered three inches of erosion. In a dry environment it is not possible to have that much erosion on the monument if it was constructed only in 2500 B.C. even if they bad a lot of rain!
