As Above, So Below

"As above, so below" is an ancient hermetic wisdom that, among other things, says that the heavens above are reflected on the earth below.

Twenty years ago, before Zoh and I entered broadcasting full time, one of our lobbying projects resulted in the successful linking of Luxor, Egypt with Baltimore, Maryland in a diplomatic and political Sister City relationship. We made several diplomatic visits to Egypt between 1978 and 1982, when the highest placed of our supporters, President Anwar El-Sadat, was assassinated. During this time we worked with Zahi Hawass, the current Director of the Pyramids, who was cordial to us and granted us the necessary permits to photograph and film the tombs, pyramids, the Sphinx, all over Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of Kings, and much more.

Long before these trips to Egypt, however, our interest in the ancient teachings and practices of this advanced culture can be seen in some of my early murals, like "The Apocalypse" painted in 1968 at the Johns Hopkins University student union building, and the murals in the Egyptian meditation room at the Ruscombe Mansion, which contains one of the replicas of King Tutankhamun's throne chairs.

Some of the discoveries reported in this newsletter have their roots in earlier theories and esoteric teachings. In the early 1970s our esoteric study center, AUM, Inc. published a flier on the science of the celestial and terrestrial maps known as Uranology, which is reflected in Robert Bauval's discovery that the Pyramids line up with the Orion constellation. The following information is a reprint of that flier:

The accompanying map is taken from New Light From The Great Pyramid by Albert Ross Parsons, 1893. It shows the relationship between the celestial and terrestrial spheres. "Manilus... suggests that the constellations are distributed according to the land and water distribution of the Earth's surface... the celestial river corresponds to the terrestrial Nile. One ingenious author has worked with this idea and remarks the extraordinary coincidence that in many cases animals which are emblematically associated with various nations are located in the heavens above the continents where the nations flourish." (Manly Palmer Hall, Philosophy of Astrology, p. 25)

Another writer refers to this system as the "Key to the Heavenly Clock". He specifies: "If we take a map of the stars and place it over a map of the Earth, with the Pole Star resting over the North Pole, we have a heavenly clock, making one complete revolution daily. Somewhere on that clock there must be a Noon Point like Greenwich in our modern world. Let us see. Do you remember what Isaiah said? 'There shall be a pillar at the borders of the land of Egypt, for a sign and for a witness.' Egypt was known as the Land of Khem, thousands of years before our era. Forgotten? Of course. And the Pleiades were known as the Khema. So we turn that clock until the Khema are over the Pyramid in the Land of Khem and while it is in that position, we have a key to the language, heraldry, disposition and racial characteristics of the people of the whole Earth. But this heavenly clock has other stories to tell.

"We turn to our heavenly clock and we find when the Khema, are over the Pyramid in the Land of Khem that the Great Bear falls over Russia. Why do we always refer to them as the Russian Bear? Near the Great Bear we find another group of stars, stretching half way around the heavens, within 30º to 50º from the Pole Star, this group is called 'Draco the Dragon', and curiously, the head falls over China. Why do we always associate China with the Dragon? Why do the Chinese carry Dragon symbology in their emblem, in their heraldry and in their everyday acts and deeds?

"Taurus falls over the Taurus Mountains from which John Bull came, and with which he was later associated -- the Crimea. The Scythian ancestors of the Saxon race (the Sax-sons, or the descendants of Is-aac) are still located upon all classical maps as the Tauri or the people of the Bull. They were the Angles of the Bull children.

"Perseus falls over Persia. Orion over Iran. Medusa over the lands of the Medes. Leo over the Loo Choo Islands (England got her Lion symbol from China). The Ram, or Lamb of God, over Rome. Capricorn, always identified with the God Pan, falls over Panama, Panuco, Mayapan, the old name for Yucatan. The Eagle falls over the United States. Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn reveal the immemorial antiquity of the name America and the significance of the armorial bearings of the United States. It is impossible to separate the Eagle from America, "the Land Shadowed with Wings," of Isaiah. Ophiucus the Serpent Bearer is an American Constellation by the same system that gives the Russian Bear, the Chinese Dragon, and to America her Eagle. The Swan Cygnus, flying down the Milky Way, over the land of Canaan (Canada) the winged steeds Pegasus, Equulus, and nearly all the wings known to Astronomy, are in the heavens above America, and when we understand this a flood of light is poured over the history and mythology of the Zodiac. And there are many other correspondences of equal or greater significance." (Archibald E. Partridge, Story of the Heavens, p. 8)

It has also been disclosed that: "the constellation of the Eagle is placed just above the man carrying the pitcher of Aquarius, who follows the bird's movements so closely that he seems to be drawn after it by unseen bonds. From this it has been inferred that Aquarius is to be identified with Ganymede, and also with the fact that even the gods themselves need the water of the Uranian forces of life." (J. E. Cirlot, Dictionary of Symbols, p. 89)

This system of knowledge is an example of the Hermetic axiom "As Above So Below" or "Microcosm equals Macrocosm." We believe it deserves close scrutiny and hope that the interviews reprinted here with contemporary experts in these related fields, will help you understand how the wisdom of the ancients can be, and even must be, applied to our present way of life.
