2nd Annual Baysox Negro League Game
Sat, 31 May 2003
Dear Baseball Fans,
As some of you may remember, last season the Bowie Baysox paid tribute to Negro League baseball by holding a game honoring Negro League stars. The Baysox wore replica jerseys of the Negro League Baltimore Elite Giants and gave Elite Giant caps to the first 1,500 fans. Attendance last year was so outstanding the Baysox are hosting a Negro League tribute game again this season.
But this year the Baysox are proud to co-partner this event with the NAACP. The Second Annual Salute to the Negro Leagues will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 7:05PM. The Baysox will recognize 6 - 8 Negro League stars and this year and will honor arguably the greatest Negro League baseball team in history, the Washington, DC Homestead Grays, by wearing replica Homestead Gray jerseys and giving the first 1,500 fans free Homestead Gray caps. To learn more about the Homestead Grays visit their homepage sponsored by the Negro League Baseball Players Association at:
This game will also feature:
* Negro League stars from the Homestead Grays, Baltimore Elite Giants, the Philadelphia Stars, the Memphis Red Sox and the Indianapolis Clowns. Together, these Negro League players will throw out the first pitch to Baysox players before the game,
* An open autograph session with Negro League players,
* The concourse will be filled with several Negro League displays, memorabilia and exhibits, and
* Game-worn replica Homestead Gray jersey silent auctions with funds going to the Negro League Baseball Players Association. With this Negro League event the Baysox have now established ourselves as a leader in recognizing the rich Negro League history in the Baltimore-Washington, DC region. But we need the help of baseball fans like you by passing the attached flier along to your family, friends and co-workers. Together, we will present an outstanding night of baseball history.
Please call me at 301-464-4884 so I can share with you more information about this night. The Bowie Baysox and the NAACP look forward to seeing you soon.
